“If this is all you read, if you put down this book at the end of this sentence, know that this is the most important message of Mary’s gospel: we are inherently good. Now, if you’re still with me, that goodness can never be lost. We can feel lost to it. But it is woven into the fabric of who we are; it’s our nature. Goodness. And the word that for me describes this experience, of knowing this inherent goodness, is soul. The word soul to me describes that eternal aspect of our being; an aspect that allows us to feel loved, and to experience that we are love. And that our humanity is not intrinsically sinful, or shameful. This human body is the soul’s chance to be here.”

― Meggan Watterson, Mary Magdalene Revealed: The First Apostle, Her Feminist Gospel & the Christianity We Haven’t Tried Yet

For the rest of the year, I’ll be sharing quotes from Meggan’s book. It is one of those rare books that come perhaps once a decade. Do you know the books I mean — the ones that help us see things with new eyes? Do you have a book or two like this? The first one I ever read was in my 20’s, The Road Less Traveled by M. Scott Peck. The next big book for me was in my 30’s, Women Who Run with the Wolves by Dr. Clarissa Pinkola-Estes. A few years ago, it was Sherri Mitchell’s Sacred Instructions. I shared several of her quotes here then as well as those from WWRWTW. If you have a quote from a book that changed your life, please share it. Or just share your favorite book(s).

In the meantime, I’m keeping a candle lit here until a ceasefire is called and sending out love, light and prayers for Gaza (and other places in the world where these are desperately needed). I will keep writing to my representatives and calling. So far, mine have voted against a ceasefire

GAZA CEASEFIRE NOW
Prayers for Gaza and other places in conflict around the world (there are more than 20 in great peril right now according to IRC). Meanwhile, the USA is the only country to veto a ceasefire. Most Americans want a ceasefire but our representatives are not listening to us. “So far, only 55 representatives out of 435 members of the House of Representatives and four senators out of 100 Senate members have called for a cease-fire.”

  1. *For the rest of the year*
I thought there were two weeks left because I lost track of time. On the last week of the year and the first of next year, there will be a new theme: “Books.” If you have a favorite quote about books, please share it. ♥

I'd love to read your thoughts!
