BETR-Frodo: Day 21

“All’s well that ends better.” -J.R.R. Tolkien, The Lord of the Rings

Here below are the notes* Samwise Gamgee took along the journey.  (Based one The Fellowship of the Ring by J.R.R. Tolkien and The Atlas of Middle Earth by Karen Fonstad and The Eowyn Challenge website.)

We’ve returned to the Great East Road.  No sign of those …of…well, anything bad, for days now.”

Strider scouted ahead.  He found an elf stone on The Last Bridge and thinks it’s a token of safety.  (Later)  We’ve crossed the River Hoarwell. (The elves call it “Mitheithel.”)

We turned north now on the Road.  We’ve entered the steep lands of the Trollshaws.  I don’t like this place.  We can see stone walls and ruined towers above, stern and frowning down on us.

“The hills are getting closer and harder to climb.  We’ve only gone about six or seven miles today most of it uphill.   Night has come quickly and we’re making camp now.  (Later) I hope we make it to Rivendell.  None of us can see the long, dark road ahead — not even Strider.  The path is so unclear and I’m not sure of anything.  All I know is we can’t stay here.  Tomorrow we’ll be on our way again.  I hope we get to see Rivendell.  Most of all I hope whatever is taking away Mr. Frodo’s strength with every minute that passes can be cured and the elves can heal him.”
