THE JOURNAL OF SAMWISE GAMGEE
Oct. 1 – Day 9 (2nd from Bree): 16 miles
On October 1st, the companions traveled east through Chetwood for 16 miles. The journey, for once, was peaceful.
Here below are the notes* Samwise Gamgee took along the journey. (Based on the meticulous milestone-marker notes on the Eowyn Challenge which are based on The Atlas of Middle Earth by Karen Fonstad which of course is based on all the wonderful works of J.R.R. Tolkien.).

“We’re heading east through Chetwood. The path is sloping slowly down so it’s easy walking. It’s been quiet and peaceful — a right nice change! We could do with plenty more where that came from!”

“We’re still in Chetwood and making our camp here tonight. Tomorrow we’ll head into the marshes. Sure don’t look forward to that. But for now, this forest is a fine place to sleep. We were visited by blue butterflies while looking for mushrooms and Pippin and Merry chased them around and got too rambunctious until Strider shushed them. For once I agree with Longshanks. We can’t forget, even with all this beauty everywhere, what’s after us.”
