BETR-Frodo: Day 13

“For even the very wise cannot see all ends.”
J.R.R. Tolkien, The Fellowship of the Ring

THE JOURNAL OF SAMWISE GAMGEE

Oct. 5 – Day 13 (6th from Bree): 18 miles

On the 13th day of the journey, the hobbits wake to frost.  They leave the Marshes and continue on toward Weathertop. The moon is waxing and by both day and night, it is easier to see the ruins ahead.

Here below are the notes* Samwise Gamgee took along the journey.  (Based on the meticulous milestone-marker notes on the Eowyn Challenge which are based on The Atlas of Middle Earth by Karen Fonstad which of course is based on all the wonderful works of J.R.R. Tolkien.).

“We’ve reached the Weather Hills. We’ll climb tomorrow. Tonight we make camp. Feels good to rest in clean air without those midges flying all over the place.

“(Later) Those ruins give me the willies, I don’t mind saying. Still, it’s a quiet night (no neekerbreekers), and the stars are bright in the sky. I’m glad to be among friends, and ready for sleep.”
