I hope we have a beautiful day. ♡
Here’s another light-filled ¤ Gem ¤

“I almost always start the [creative writing] class with this quote from Robert Frost, who said, “No surprise for the writer, no surprise for the reader. No tears for the writer, no tears for the reader.” So if you’re not surprised, if you’re not crying, your reader’s not going to be surprised. Your reader’s not going to be crying or laughing or in pain. So, it’s just so important to figure out how to surprise yourself… I do encourage my students to learn about things that they don’t know and research porcupines or whatever. Also, spending time in nature, listening to new songs, encountering new paintings, and new books. I feel like those are some of the ways. I feel like books beget books. Music can beget writing, just as encountering other forms of art. It seems like it really opens people’s minds.”
