This Gem is dedicated to my dad, Joe who would have been 102 today had he lived. He died ten years ago, but I think of him every day. Today is especially hard on my mom, so this Gem is also for her. My dad was a great husband and father who lived a long and honorable life — a good life. He served in World War II as a drill sergeant and phys ed instructor training troops on the Aleutian Islands in Alaska. More than anything, my dad loved the ocean. We never lived far from the ocean and journeyed there whenever possible for fishing and swimming. He especially loved the Jersey shore, a love we all share in our family.

My dad, Joe, and me ~1987. Volunteer Biographers, (←new site) a “giftivism” initiative.

I miss you, Daddy.
