“The “I Will Survive” song speaks to me every time I go through a dark time in life….“
A beautiful share from Mish about her beloved mother.
“My biggest regret was not being strong enough to keep my sweet Mom with us when her Alzheimer’s advanced to a stage that became too much for me to bear. I took her in to live with us when it became clear she shouldn’t live on her own. She was the sweetest, kindest soul. I was on the verge of a nervous breakdown when, after a year with us, it just became too much.
“A friend was the head nurse in an excellent nursing home & she was well cared for there, but I felt terrible guilt about sending her away.
“It was so heart wrenching. Oceans of tears It took me decades to feel less guilt & accept I did the best I was capable of back then.”
-Mish

Yes, I know that guilt feeling … I kept Carole at home with me, for the 30 years of her MS, but I always felt there was more I could do … more time together, more outings, more everything …
{{{{Ivor}}} To me, you’re a hero. No doubt you were Carol’s #1 hero. No doubt. But I get it. We’re always so hard on ourselves, especially when it comes to people we love who aren’t with us any more. I hope you’ve learned to forgive yourself for anything you think you might have done. The love story you and Carol shared is a bright light, Ivor, every single time you share it. She’s immortal now, because of you. ♥
Thank you for your very kind words, Niki … and yes, we are hard on ourselves … but now, 12 later, I’ve come to accept that my efforts were more than substantial, and my guilt complexes have ebbed away …. 💕💝🌏
That’s wonderful to read, Ivor. I’m so glad. ♥
Thank you Niki … 💛🌏
A heartfelt share and a difficult situation to be in. It is good that Mish was able to accept she did the best she could. 🌻
Michele, yes. I agree. Really tough situation. Mish is a wise and wonderfully uplifting person. Still waters. So I never knew about this heartache. I asked her if I could share the story. She said if I thought it would help she didn’t mind. I said it was not just helpful but needed. Stories remind us we’re not alone. I’m very grateful for her share here. ♥
