Did you know that there’s a place on the internet where you can submit any wish your heart desires; and then, that your wish will flutter down as confetti with millions of other wishes in Times Square at midnight on New Year’s Eve?

It’s called the New Year’s Eve Wishing Wall. I found it today.   It’s too late to submit a wish to be part of this year’s celebration, alas.  However, any wish submitted after the 28th of December will become part of the celebration next year.

This is what I wrote: https://imgur.com/xuKn36X

If you can have more than one wish, wouldn’t it be lovely if you could write anonymous wishes? I can just see your wish floating down and becoming an inadvertent adornment in someone’s hair. Imagine a beloved reaching for that piece of paper and reading it out loud, perhaps something like,

“I wish that you, the person who found this piece of paper, will have a beautiful New Year filled with love and peace!”  Or,

“I wish that you would take a chance in this brand new year and do what you fear to do but also secretly long to do!  Do it!  It will be amazing!”  Or maybe,

“Go on.  Say “I love you!”  This is the perfect time and place to do it, and they need to hear it, tonight!”

What wish would you write, if you could have only one? Close your eyes and ask your heart, right now, “What do you desire?”   What is the first thing that comes to your mind?   Then, what if you could have a wish for every day, and what if those wishes could be turned into messages to someone you’ve never met next New Year’s Eve? What are one or two things you might write then?  Please share it below!

My wish for you today is this:

When you close your eyes and see your heart’s desire, that your wish will come true.

Special thanks to Rajni for contributing today’s quote.  I wanted to authenticate this attribution and learned it has been contested.  While in Hawaii in 1963, Covey found this written in a book.  He never could find the source and even tried going back to the library years later but the book (and the library) were long gone.  The story about Covey’s search is here on Quote Investigator – great site!

Covey is a very quotable source.  He went on to add to this great advice with more:

“I am not the product of my circumstances.  I am the product of my choices.”

I always thought it would be handy to have a flashing neon sign in that space between stimulus (especially conflict) and response, maybe something like:

THINK, THEN SPEAK!

or

LISTEN, THEN REACT!

or

CHOOSE LOVE, NOT FEAR!

What would be on the neon sign in your space between stimulus and response?

Blessings of Christmas to you if you celebrate, and blessings of peace, either way, if you don’t.  This night always felt so magical to me, as a child.  I’ve since learned that Jesus was probably born in the Spring, but I still like to sing the song I learned about his birth every Christmas Eve.

Hush my heart, behold the wonder/ Lying there in yonder stall./ Son of God, the great Creator,/ He before whom angels fall, the Lord of all./ Once he hung the stars in Heaven,/ Sent the planets on their way,/ Now he stoops to this poor manger/ Sleeps a babe on the stable hay./ Who could tell the depths of mercy?/ Who could know a love so true?/ Who the boundless grace could measure/ That his coming brings to view?/ Hush my heart and bow in worship/ At his lowly cradle there,/ Knowing that he came to save us/ Came to earth our sins to bear.”  (A Christmas solo I sang when I was 19 for a church concert. I’m sorry I don’t know the name, but if you do, I’d love to know.)

Wherever you are today, may you find shelter, warmth and peace, and may you know, always, how much you are loved.  ∞♥∞
