“I refuse to accept the view that mankind is so tragically bound to the starless midnight of racism and war that the bright daybreak of peace and brotherhood can never become a reality…I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word.” -Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Years ago I started mailing out graphics I made twice a day to friends. I called it “Rx-for-Healing.  It began after I heard Dr. Northrup’s interview in the movie Hungry for Change.  I wrote extensively about how doing this twice-daily exercise changed my life.  I went from being my worst enemy to — if not yet my best friend, definitely a good friend to myself.

When I started Rx-for-Healing in 2012, I also made it my lifetime goal to create at least 10,000 uplifting messages of beauty during my lifetime.  Since then I’ve created around 3,000 or so.  Rx-for-Healing is all about opposites.  If I felt a strong negative emotion, I looked for its opposite.  Then I looked for quotes about that positive word and read those quotes until I felt better.  It worked really well.  Then I created the graphics which make up most of the ones found on my Pinterest boards, Great Advice from Wise PeopleCreated with Love and my 365-Grateful boards.

When I began under1000skies four years ago, I wanted to use the creative works of homeless artists exclusively.   It soon became very apparent that most homeless creative folks have a lot more going on than supplying this site with photos and poetry.   It was a privilege to receive the beauty when they could share it, given the chaos and difficulty of their lives.

So, on the days in between, I continued to add to this lifetime goal by combining inspiring quotes with beautiful photos from friends, from free sources, or from my own photos and art.

One of the ways I find quotes is to read the news, then summarize the prevailing emotion for the day.  Then I try to find an opposite word and quotes about that which will help heal hearts.  Today’s news had a lot about hate it in.  Among the antonyms for hate is the word “respect.” I found this quote by Don Miguel Ruiz about respect to be perfect for today.

My lifetime goal is ongoing because, as my personal site tagline says, “I feel the world and want to help heal the world.”  I know peace on earth begins with me.  I hope my journey to healing has inspired you and will continue to do so in the days ahead.

With love and respect,

Niki Flow

4. Always Do Your Best
Your best is going to change from moment to moment; it will be different when you are healthy as opposed to sick. Under any circumstance, simply do your best, and you will avoid self-judgment, self-abuse, and regret.

2. Don’t Take Anything Personally
Nothing others do is because of you. What others say and do is a projection of their own reality, their own dream. When you are immune to the opinions and actions of others, you won’t be the victim of needless suffering.

1. Be Impeccable with your Word: Speak with integrity. Say only what you mean. Avoid using the Word to speak against yourself or to gossip about others. Use the power of your Word in the direction of truth and love.

I had to find a quote today about heroes after hearing the news that one of the heroes of World War II, Joachim Rønneberg, died today.  He was 99.  My dad and my two uncles were heroes of that War too, each in their own way.  My Uncle Fred, like Rønneberg, parachuted into enemy territory.  My Uncle Bill was in a tank division in Europe and my dad taught infantry in the Pacific theater.  The story of Joachim Rønneberg is very inspiring.  About nine years ago, when he was 90, he began to speak about it more openly.  The Telegraph reported here:  A New Mission for Joachim Rønneberg, Hero of Telemark.  There is a movie about his life and the trailer is here on NPR, posted today about his death: Joachim Rønneberg , Who Sabotaged Nazis’ Nuclear Hopes, Dies At 99.

Today my husband and I celebrate 19 years together. I wanted a quote that described the love I have felt all these years for and from this exceptional man, my best friend.  The word that came to mind was “devotion” which is how I found this quote.
