Special thanks to Rajni for contributing today’s quote. I wanted to authenticate this attribution and learned it has been contested. While in Hawaii in 1963, Covey found this written in a book. He never could find the source and even tried going back to the library years later but the book (and the library) were long gone. The story about Covey’s search is here on Quote Investigator – great site!
Covey is a very quotable source. He went on to add to this great advice with more:
“I am not the product of my circumstances. I am the product of my choices.”
I always thought it would be handy to have a flashing neon sign in that space between stimulus (especially conflict) and response, maybe something like:
THINK, THEN SPEAK!
or
LISTEN, THEN REACT!
or
CHOOSE LOVE, NOT FEAR!
What would be on the neon sign in your space between stimulus and response?
Blessings of Christmas to you if you celebrate, and blessings of peace, either way, if you don’t. This night always felt so magical to me, as a child. I’ve since learned that Jesus was probably born in the Spring, but I still like to sing the song I learned about his birth every Christmas Eve.
Hush my heart, behold the wonder/ Lying there in yonder stall./ Son of God, the great Creator,/ He before whom angels fall, the Lord of all./ Once he hung the stars in Heaven,/ Sent the planets on their way,/ Now he stoops to this poor manger/ Sleeps a babe on the stable hay./ Who could tell the depths of mercy?/ Who could know a love so true?/ Who the boundless grace could measure/ That his coming brings to view?/ Hush my heart and bow in worship/ At his lowly cradle there,/ Knowing that he came to save us/ Came to earth our sins to bear.” (A Christmas solo I sang when I was 19 for a church concert. I’m sorry I don’t know the name, but if you do, I’d love to know.)
Wherever you are today, may you find shelter, warmth and peace, and may you know, always, how much you are loved. ∞♥∞

I hope you’re having a beautiful day. ♡ Here’s another light-filled ¤ Gem ¤
Hope
Sometimes when life knocks us down, hope is the only thing we feel we have to hold onto. We hope for healing in mind, body and spirit. Hope for a better day, today. Hope for a better day, tomorrow. Hope we see things with fresh eyes when our vision has become narrow. Hope for understanding. Hope that our goals will be achieved. Hope lifts us up. Hope gives us strength to carry on and the trust that all will work out for the best. We set our sights on those hopes and work towards them with a willing heart and an open mind. Each of us has hopes for our personal lives and for the lives of those we love and cherish. Hope is powerful and we need to hold onto it with all our being. Please feel free to share, if you are so inspired.

The lyrics of this theme song include English words, as well as words in the fictional Elvish language, Quenya, created by J.R.R. Tolkien. While Enya wrote music, Roma Ryan studied the languages and wrote the lyrics in English and Quenya. There are two lines with phrases written in Quenya. The first, Mornië utúlië, translates to “Darkness has come.” Mornië alantië translates as “Darkness has fallen.” Each line repeats twice in the song, with the remaining song lyrics written in English. They are intermingled with the Quenya lyrics, as in the second stanza; “Mornië utúlië, believe and you will find your way; Mornië alantië, a promise lives within you now.” Enya also performed another song ‘”Aníron” for The Lord of the Rings, which is sung in another of Tolkien’s Elvish languages, Sindarin.

I created the video below for my husband during a tough time. I had just been hospitalized the year before and had been unable to work for over a year. Medical and other bills were through the roof. This video was meant to be a vision of what we wanted for our lives, places to visit together, health we were working towards.
In the last frame of the video, as in today’s photo, is a rainbow. In the Old Testament story of Noah, the rainbow was given as a symbol of a promise. The song ends, “A promise lives within you now.”
May the promise that lives within you – whatever that is for you – meet the dawn.
May it be.
