Special thanks to TC. We’re sharing her essays and photos again this week. Here’s Day 8 of 10, (Gems 7.83):
Craftsmanship

Quote: “We are becoming a society that doesn’t complain about a job that isn’t done well. We are willing to pay more and receive less.” Unknown
Have we ever witnessed a craftsman at work? Their focus is completely on the task at hand. They stand gazing at something and it is clear to see that they are thinking about what the next step is. They may be slow and methodical, taking their time to get the job done right. The question may be asked “why put so much time and effort into their work?” Less than their best will be good enough. Therein lies the problem, when is good enough without our best effort, ever good enough? How can this be right? For those who feel that if you are going to do a job do it right, good enough does not work. Craftsman take pride in their work; they put in their best effort and are always looking to improve what they do. Fast, cheap, and poor quality of workmanship may seem like the right thing to do in this transitory world. Opting when possible for a slower, more costly and with quality workmanship may in the end be the most cost effective and satisfying way to go. Without our support the role of the craftsman will disappear and what they have to offer will be gone forever. Choose wisely. Please feel free to share if you are so inspired.
