How the Light Gets In

Sculpture by Paige Bradley

“Ring the bells that still can ring. Forget your perfect offering. There is a crack in everything. That’s how the light gets in.”

-Leonard Cohen

Short story: under1000skies is going a bit offline until next year because of a recent vision diagnosis. Details to follow. Gratitude Day will continue on the 28th of every month as planned.

Long Story: I had a long-overdue eye exam this morning.

Healing Break

I had a bad neck flare-up so I need to take a break. I have an old neck injury that flares up when I overwork and/or get stressed. This one is pretty bad but it will calm down eventually. I’ll be back on Monday, June 6th. The only exceptions will be if I get material from our poets to share.

Thanks for following, and I promise this is only temporary.

Connection Celebration

Art by Niki Flow

“We are so much stronger together. We all Have part of the answer.”

In celebration of our connection, under1000skies.org has a new icon: an old painting I did after hearing a story about oak trees.

New Page

Image by Ri Butov from Pixabay

A new artist contacted me last week and asked some great questions about how we feature creative work. As I wrote back, I realized this may be a question others have had.

So here is our new page which you can see in the menu above now.

Newsletters and Videos

I hope you’re having a beautiful weekend. ♡
Here’s what’s coming on ¤ under1000skies ¤

(¸.•´ (¸.•` ¤ Newsletters and Videos ¤

Our first Newsletter, 1.1

The first newsletter (1.1) was published on June 15, 2019. By 1.4, I added the first video. On December 31, 2019, I published a year of Gems. By January 11, 2020, I started themes. The first theme was “Solace.”

Between Newsletter Video 2.22 (July 4, 2020) and 2.24 (July 18, 2020) I skipped a number (2.23). Since I did a series of J.R.R. Tolkien quotes during our Annual Kindspring Eowyn Challenge, I will be creating a video with the JRR theme and labeling it 2.23.

There are two one-day themes (Friday and May the Fourth).

Gems will begin again on Monday. The theme for the next two weeks will be “Intuition.” Then, beginning on September 20 until October 8, the theme will be “Journey.” This is to honor the Fourth Annual 21-Day KindSpring Eowyn Challenge (beginning September 23, 2021). It will once again follow the journey of Frodo, Sam, Pippin and Merry from The Shire to Rivendell. The Journal of Samwise Gamgee (“illustrated” by his daughter Elanor) for all 28 days of that journey is here (Bag End to Rivendell).

In reverse order, these are all the Newsletters and (beginning with 1.4) Videos for under1000skies.org.. I will be making a subject list soon. In the meantime, if you want to find a specific subject to look for quotes, just use control-F on this page. And if you have an idea for a theme we haven’t covered yet, please let me know. I’d love to hear from you.

I will see you on Monday!

Two Letters

Graphic art by Niki Flow. Song “Dear God” by Avenge Sevenfold.

A friend asked in a letter,
“How are you today?”
And I wanted to answer
the usual, “Doing well” or “I’m okay.”
But as I began to write
My fingers stopped after “I”
And all of a sudden I knew
I wasn’t going to lie.
So I poured out my heart in a letter.
By the time I got to the end
I realized I felt a bit better.
I asked myself, “Do I send?”
Nothing had changed, yet something had
I put a burden down for a time.
I started another letter.
“I loved your letter. I’m doing fine.”

We’ve sorted our IT problems and will be back on track on Monday.  Meanwhile, Nipun at ServiceSpace.org sent out a beautiful video in today’s Newsletter, a poem about these uncertain times.  I wanted to share it with you.  I hope it gives you comfort too.  I hope you and yours are well.
