Photo, “Archangel Boomerang” by Niki Flow

“An angel has no memory.”  -Terry Southern

This photo was taken from inside my car while speeding down the highway as a storm gathered. (I wasn’t driving.) When I saw the photo on my computer, I thought it looked like an Archangel facing down, wings folded around him, his right hand holding a boomerang back behind his head, ready to throw.

You know, I hope Terry Southern was wrong; or, that the boomerang is one of those squishy Nerf kinds.

TICKLED PINK
Created in honor of Pinktoes’ “Pink-Themed Song Contest”

I found a Pink Love Potion.
I bravely took a drink.
I never had the notion
It would turn my blonde hair
Pink!

I tried another sip —
Aye brave I be, not wise.
Can ye guess what happened next? Continue reading

Alan Wilson Watts (6 January 1915 – 16 November 1973) was a British philosopher, writer, and speaker, best known as an interpreter and populariser of Eastern philosophy for a Western audience…Watts gained a large following in the San Francisco Bay Area while working as a volunteer programmer at KPFA, a Pacifica Radio station in Berkeley. Watts wrote more than 25 books and articles on subjects important to Eastern and Western religion, introducing the then-burgeoning youth culture to The Way of Zen (1957), one of the first bestselling books on Buddhism.

How Introverts Make Friends

  1. Dogs* count as friends.  (*includes all non-humans, animate or inanimate, imaginary or real, alive or otherwise.)
  2. An extrovert found them, liked them and adopted them.
How Introverts Make Friends

This was posted ↑ this way on Reddit and re-created for under1000skies with the *details after reading several comments by cat owners, and others. =)

Are you an introvert?  (If so, put your hand up, then quickly down again.)  Me too.  Some of the most interesting people I’ve never met are, or were, introverts.  Jane Austin, Albert Einstein, Dr. Seuss… (An extensive, and delightfully surprising, list of more introverts is here).

The internet is the perfect place for introverts.  Finally, we can unite (separately, in our own quiet homes.)  Go to any social media, and we have our own hashtag.  For example: #introverts on Tumblr.

Well met, dear introvert, and Happy Monday (fun day) to all, intro-, extro- and ambiverts (balanced between both).  I hope that this re-created graphic made you smile today.  If you are an introvert, here’s a fun test.  “What kind of Introvert are you? (Mine was “healer.”)

The Champion- very smart, unique, and has a vast intellect that helps them to create and invent
The Artist- non-conformist and multi-talented with an eye for change and natural expression
The Mastermind- determined, strong and inspiring, while also very guarded and private
The Protector- emotionally complex, social, outgoing, kind and yet paradoxical
The Healer- understanding, spiritual, altruistic, calm and relaxed
The Architect- knowledgeable, hands on, intuitive, and enjoys teaching others

Starting today, I’m going to do an audio version of the posts both here, on Niki Flow and on Grammy Miami.  The first two are so that my husband (or anyone who doesn’t have a lot of time to read) can enjoy these too; the last is so I can send the link to my daughter for my beautiful granddaughters.  My husband travels a lot and is my biggest fan, but he doesn’t often get a chance to read during the day.   This way I can send him the link and he can listen while driving.  The audio isn’t the best here, but we have better mics to be installed soon.

Gems 4.73 graphic design by Niki Flow Poem 2nd Grade by John Olander Nun photo - photographer unknown

Poem “2nd Grade” John Olander.  Photographer Unknown.

2nd Grade

by John Olander

What was I thinking in the second grade?

How about the luminous face of my vibrant teacher?

She may have been a nun, but she still looked like she’d be a lot of fun.

But let’s not get carried away,

She did rap my knuckles with the ruler more than once,

And looked like she was enjoying it.

Just the same, what you are taught in the second grade is to love each other.

That comes long before bullying and ridicule, arrogant self-identity,

Followed by the beginning of separation and cliquish behavior.

Your drawing need not be perfect,

Your penmanship doesn’t matter.

Your Generosity permeates everything.

You still emulate everything that is good.

Your joy in life itself is both palpable and contagious.

It is only in becoming jaded and forgetting the joy

that is the giving of yourself that you begin to age.

Themes:

don't share but do drawDies Mercurrii

I beg your indulgence.  Today’s poem is a rare self-insert, but I cannot silence my heart’s keening. Some nights are like this.  Then, I surface. Hope returns.

Instead of monthly themes, we’ll be doing recurring weekly ones for the days when we don’t have any new creations to share from our homeless artists.  Recurring daily themes are: Monday – (fun)day – humor;  Tuesday – muse day (our biggest inspirations); Wednesday – dies Mercurii – Day of Mercury, mercurial day, water day (Japanese/Korean) “Water Star;” anything goes; Thursday – Thor, the gods, those we worship (God, god or otherwise); Friday – Frigg / Venus day, so LOVE; -or- TGIF what it really means.  Or bag all that and insert your theme idea here:

Drawing “Silent Treatment” by Niki Flow

Journey Notes

The theme for June will be “silence,” “listening,” “stillness,” and “sacred space.”   If you have a favorite quote about any or all of those, please let us know!   Meanwhile, stay-tuned for something new starting tomorrow:  “Spotlight Saturday,” featuring an inspiring story from the homeless community — connected at the heart, around the world, by people who “love hard and give a f–k.”

Your Creativity

As always, we would love to feature your creative visions.  If you would like to contribute photos, art work, short poems/stories, quotes, time, etc., please see our “About Us” page for details.  When we show each other what we find beautiful, we get a glimpse into each others’ hearts.  .

May you find joy every day of your journey through life,
