THIS DAY ON MIDDLE EARTH: 23 September 3018

On September 23rd, early in the evening, Frodo, Sam and Pippin slipped away from Bag End. (Fellowship of the Ring, Chapter 3, “Three Is Company“). The “official” story of their leaving is that Frodo is moving to Crick Hollow and Sam and Pippin are to accompany and help him. The real story is, Frodo is the bearer of the One Ring. He must take the Ring to Elrond in Rivendell while trying to stay hidden from the Black Riders of Mordor.

Today’s ☼Gem☼

Our ☼Gem☼ yesterday (9/23) was removed due to copyright infringement — I think. I only know that it is gone on all social media and on Facebook “Gems” as well. My fault! I ASS-u-MEd adding copyright was enough, but I never did get the permission from the photographer to feature his/her work (Hauke Sternberg, Road to Hobbiton). Live and learn. I’ll have a new 1.17 up soon and then will post 1.18. Sorry about that — won’t happen again!

Brice’s “I Drive Your Truck” may move you to tears. It isn’t just a song about a truck — it’s a song about the narrator driving a truck owned by his brother … and his brother died in action in the Army. In the song, Brice sings about how he copes with the pain of losing a loved one: “I drive your truck / I roll every window down / And I burn up / Every back road in this town / I find a field, I tear it up / ‘Til all the pain’s a cloud of dust / Yeah, sometimes I drive your truck.”
