Gems 4.96

I hope you’re having a beautiful Friday. ♡
Here’s another light-filled ¤ Gem ¤

Read by Thich Nath Hanh, chanted by brother Phap Niem. The creators of this audio track were Gary Malkin, the composer/arranger, producer, and collaborator Michael Stillwater. The work came from a CD/book called Graceful Passages: A Companion for Living and Dying, and it could be purchased by going to wisdomoftheworld.com. The creator of this video is R Smittenaar. This video can be downloaded at: https://vimeo.com/6518109 Visuals taken from: HOME, Earth and Baraka

Please forgive the lateness of this Gem.  The time/stamina I had today went to something that is deeply touching my heart:   Updates from Texas.  The chant came from a friend on KindSpring who is grieving the loss of a sister. I needed a way to let go of the anxiety that was building since I began writing this morning.  It really helped. It’s a beautiful chant.

Some news…

July

Next Monday we’ll feature our homeless artists, JohnnyO and Cord X’s beautiful creations in a Gallery Slide Show.  We’ll be taking the rest of July off except for any Spotlight Saturday interviews we might be able to line up.

August

August and ongoing, our theme will always be about the homeless and the struggle of homelessness.   We’ll use quotes, share news and feature those serving the homeless (more Spotlight Saturdays).

The exception to that is:

September

The 2nd Annual KindSpring Eowyn Challenge

Beginning on Hobbit Day (September 22nd) we’ll begin a new KindSpring Eowyn Challenge:  Walking through Earth and Middle EarthAll are welcome! All photos used will be original artwork, photos or those gifted for the limited use of the challenge.  I’ll supply the link to the challenge once it’s set up and ready.  I’ll also be continuing The Journal of Samwise Gamgee.  Since we didn’t finish that here due  to some technical problems in 2015, we’ll do the same walk as the first one:  Bag End to Rivendell with Frodo and Company.

(298)
We’re camped now.  Today we followed a wide shallow curving valley.  Finally out of those brambles. Mr. Frodo is hanging on but he looks poorly.  His eyes are all funny and he doesn’t recognize anyone.  It’s like he’s somewhere else.

Bag End to Rivendell, Day 15 of 28

GEMS 1.32

Oct. 7 – Day 15 (1st from Weathertop): 19 miles

(7 Oct – 15th Day from the Shire – Dawn) In the night, the Nazgûl attacked. I couldn’t find Mr. Frodo, then I heard him cry out as from far away — strange words they were! Then, when he appeared, he was bad hurt! Strider fought the cursed things off. At full light, we made our way down to the Great Road. As we crossed, we heard the Riders and ran into the brambles. We camp here tonight. Strider says Mr. Frodo’s wound came from a Morgul-blade and is cursed!

Oct. 4 – Day 12 (5th from Bree): 17 miles

“It’s like in the great stories, Mr. Frodo, — the ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger they were…But in the end, it’s only a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass.” J.R.R. Tolkien, The Two Towers

Weather Foothills, 12th Day from the Shire
Tonight we camp by a proper stream and trees.  Well, the trees are stunted alders but they sure beat the Marsh.  The moon is turning her face away and in a week or so the night will be too dark to see much at all.  (from The Journal of Samwise Gamgee*)

Midgewater Marshes, Day 11 from the Shire

“We walked all day and we have to make camp here again tonight! Strider says we’ll be out by tomorrow.  The Neekerbreekers are giving us another sleepless night.  We can see Weathertop from here to the east with some kind of bright flashes of light * over it.  I miss the Shire.

* What neither Sam nor the companions could not have known was that the lights were Gandalf’s magic on Weathertop as he fought off the Nazgûl. Gandalf had arrived in Bree the day after the companions left it, but because they told had told Barleyman, innkeeper at the Prancing Pony, that they were headed for Weathertop, Gandalf rode straight there. The remaining four Nazgûl attacked him there and he outwitted them and escaped.
